My name is Stefanie and I know exactly what you’ve been dealing with.

It used to happen to me too.
You see, I’m a language learner just like you… but I learned Spanish, not English.
And, like you, I struggled to speak confidently:

I was terrified I’d say the wrong thing and people would laugh at me…

I sounded too much like a textbook, instead of like a natural speaker…

I thought the ONLY solution – the only way to achieve native-like fluency – was to LIVE in a Spanish-speaking country.
So while I was in college, I went to Argentina to study abroad.
And like something out of a fairy tale, I met my husband, Renzo there… only a couple of hours after my plane landed!
The only problem was… he barely spoke English, and my Spanish was far from perfect!
When we first met…
His pronunciation was terrible,
he made tons of grammar mistakes,
and he had a very limited vocabulary.
But you know what? That didn’t stop him!
He was SO eager to speak English fluently.
But he wasn’t a “normal” English student…
He never studied textbooks, memorized vocabulary, or worked on his pronunciation.
Instead, our daily life together became his classroom.
As I always do anyway, I talked A LOT… and Renzo absorbed every word.
In just three months, the transformation was astounding.
Renzo went from speaking very poor English to having in-depth conversations.
And this was only the beginning.
Within a few years, he was sounding like a native English speaker.
His speech now mirrors mine, complete with the same expressions, grammar, connected speech, and sentence patterns.
It's astonishing to think that someone who never studied English seriously, speaks it so well.
I had a similar experience.
By the time I got to Argentina, I was SO TIRED of studying Spanish that I stopped completely (I had been studying it for years!).
Instead, I finally just RELAXED!
I was immersed in the language on a daily basis.
And I adored how Renzo’s mother communicated… her voice was so clear and easy to listen to. Her pace was perfect. Her stories were so expressive.
I chose her as my role model and decided to imitate her way of speaking.
